Lauren Drain – I have insecurities. I have days I wake up & have zero motivation. I have times I don’t want to look in the mirror. There are days I hate how clothes look on me. Sometimes I feel fluffy or out of shape. Sometimes I feel less feminine. Some days I struggle to know what my goals are. However the gym has helped me build my strength and confidence. I know that no matter what day I’m having, once I put in the work, I feel stronger, focused and I let my worries and fears go. I used to struggle with reaching “perfection.” This a lose/lose battle because you can never convince your own mind that you’ve obtained it. That’s why I’ve given that up, and instead focus and encourage others to seek to better themselves with progress, not perfection. The pride and happiness that I see both women and men obtain when they reach what they thought was impossible through hard work and dedication inspires me when I lost sight of what my goals were. #BeMoreHuman To live a strong life, isn’t to simple be strong, but to pick yourself up when you’re weak and refocus. Reset with positive vibes and goals. Enjoy yourself in the moment of your strength, not just in the results. The journey will be so much more worth it. Some days I wish I could workout in a dark gym with no mirrors to eliminate judgment of myself and encourage just pride. Just me and the bar. Let’s go. Ladies build each other up. Encourage each other constantly. Be each others’ support not a stumbling block. Empowering each other is contagious and makes one another unstoppable. Play into your strengths, not your doubts, fears or weaknesses. We are all beautiful in different ways. Tag a swolemate or friend who challenges you for the better.

P.S. No this isn’t how we workout. It’s an artistic fitness photoshoot…

Lauren Drain – I never set out to be a “fitness model” in fact that was never my intention. About 2 years ago I found myself looking in the mirror and being unhappy with the way I looked and felt, having let the fall & the holiday season get the better of me. I decided to make a change for the better and did my first Paleo challenge with great results. Thereafter I did some research, lots of YouTubing & asking around and decided to bite the bullet and sign up for my first bikini show. I got a coach and trained my butt off for 14 weeks straight to be able to step on stage after my initial transformation. It wasn’t easy since at the time I was working 13 hour night shifts at one hospital and per-diem at another to make up for the cost of the show and coaching. By the time I stepped on stage I was an anxious/excited/inexperienced mess but I was able to placed 9th out of 30+ girls my first time around. Thereafter I was hungry, I wanted my pro card. I did a show the following weekend 6 hours away in Canada, entering 2 decisions. I got off of a night shift, picked up at the hospital while still in my scrubs & slept in the back seat as I was delivered to the athletes meeting with minutes to spare. I placed 3rd in Bikini and 5th I fitness ? but no pro card. I ended up training for a total of 6 shows in 12 months while working nights, earning my pro card and winning on the 5th try In the process I’ve met many great people, hustled to work with anyone and everyone to get my name out there & generate fun content. I’ve tried and failed time and time again but I’ve learned from my mistakes. I’m not perfect, I’m not trying to be either… I just want to be the best version of myself that I can be During my journey I converted my private IG acct to a public one and started posting photos that documented my struggles, thinking a few extra fans may help me land a photoshoot or help my chances of winning So with all that being said I just want to thank you all for your love & support ? I couldn’t have done it without you.

Lauren Drain – If someone says they don’t have the time to workout they just mean they don’t have the drive, the discipline or the desire. When there’s the will there is always a way I used to work 13 hour night shifts at the hospital while training for 5 shows in 12 months… I too “didn’t have the time” but I made it work, I found a way. Sometimes it sucked, other times I cried and asked myself why I was doing it… But in the end, it was well worth the struggle #ProgressNotPerfection

So I want to talk a bit about excuses. I think the most frequent excuse I hear is “I don’t have the time.” Here’s a little backstory on how I got to this stage. I made a New Years Resolution Jan 1, 2013, to “get in the best shape of my life.” I signed up for my first WBFF show while working full time as a float RN night shift at one hospital and as a cardiac ICU RN per diem at another hospital. I weight trained 5-6 days a week for about an hour and did my prescribed cardio 6 days a week ranging 25-55min each session. That’s a max of 2 hours a day with 1 rest day. I did this 6 shows in a row, earning first place my WBFF Pro Card and competing in my first Pro show (pictured here – 4th place) all in 16 months. My routine was: go to work at 7pm, work until 8am, go to sleep at 9am, wake up at 3-4pm, go to gym until 6pm, shower/change and Back to work 3-4 days a week. Transformations can be done and quicker than you think. There’s never enough excuses and almost never enough time. Start where you can and fit workouts into your schedule. It may not be for a show or a time constraint, but your health and body will thank you. Push the envelope. Live outside the box. Because of that life change, I now can do what I love and around my own schedule. #ProgressNotPerfection

P.S. I’m about 12% body fat here so it’s all muscle, as opposed to my “off season” body fat of 17% which is more curves/booty.

Lauren Drain – A lot of people ask me how to get a flat tummy or to get those abs to show. The results start in the kitchen… It’s 75%-85% diet! You have to burn through that layer of belly fat first and you’ll make the most progress by cleaning up what and how you eat. Crunches and leg lifts don’t do much if you’re carrying around that extra layer – diet and cardio first If you want help see my Ab Define guide on my website that talks more about this and outlines a good structure to get you started

Lauren Drain – If you saw the SnapChat video from last nights shoot – here is one of the final photos What do you think? For those wondering, I’m 5’5 at about 132lbs right now and most of the height is in my legs
